Why do I feel weak on a high protein diet? I remember when I first asked this question myself. I was using the low carb high protein diet to lose body fat. I was seeing and feeling the benefits of the diet but was feeling a little off. I was playing a game called Danney ball and felt real tired. After the game I did some research and figured out, diet tip, that I was not eating enough fat calories to fuel my body. After training many people using the high protein low carb diet, they ran into the same problem.
Sometimes it took a few explanations of the diet for them to understand.
“Here’s the problem!”
Most people just think of eating protein on a low carb high protein diet. They usually don’t think of eating much fat in their diet. I think they are afraid of fats. The diet really is a high fat, medium protein, low carb diet. If you read my page on the low carb, high protein diet you will see that it is 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbohydrates.
Your body can use fats or carbohydrates for energy most easily.
When you reduce your carbohydrates to a very small amount your body is forced to use fats for energy. If there are no fats available from your diet your body will have to use protein or body fat for energy. Burning body fat is good but with no fat coming from your diet your energy level will stay low.
Protein is not a very good source of energy. Your body will use it if you give it no other option. By adding more fats to your low carb, high protein diet you will increase your strength and energy.
I have also seen increased strength and energy on a low carb diet by adding branched chain amino acids (protein broken down into smaller more usable parts for the body), pre-workout formula (acetyl L- carnitine, piracetam, L-tyrosine and citruline malate), and green drink.
Another bad thing I have seen from many people trying to use the low carb diet is not using nutritional supplements. It is important to use some vitamin and mineral, fiber, fish oil and anti-oxidant supplements. This should help answer the question of “Why do I feel weak on a high protein diet?”
This diet avoids many foods like fruits and other high carb starchy carbohydrates that contain the things like vitamins and minerals, fiber, and anti-oxidants.
